Küste und Kälte / Cold Coast

Kälte. Als wir in der Früh unseren Ausflug an die Küste um Göteborg starteten war sie da, die Kälte. Bei 13° C drehten wir im Auto die Heizung auf (im Juli) und als beschlossen wurde, die Jause im ersten Ort unserer Tour draußen einzunehmen, hielt ich das für einen Scherz. Warm angezogen und mit heißem Kaffee war dies dann zwar erträglich, allerdings badeten neben uns Kinder im gewöhnlichen Badeanzug, was ich so gar nicht nachvollziehen konnte.

Je weiter wir fuhren, desto wärmer wurde es aber. Nachdem wir mit einer (gratis) Autofähre auf eine der Inseln gefahren waren, aßen wir dort sogar draußen ein Eis – in der Sonne. Von Insel zu Insel und von Ort zu Ort legte ich eine Schicht Kleidung ab, bis irgendwann ein T-Shirt reichte und sich meine Stimmung immer mehr hob. Dazu trug auch bei, dass wir an diesem Tag viele schöne Plätze gesehen haben, nette Urlaubsstädte und viele beeindruckende Häuser. Da wir all dies mit dem Auto erledigten und ich nicht selbst gefahren bin, kann ich leider nicht mehr sagen, wie die Orte hießen, die wir besichtigt haben. Aber ich denke, dass man bei dieser Art von Ausflug ohnehin am meisten entdeckt, wenn man einfach drauf los fährt und überall einbiegt, wo es einem gefällt. Genau so haben wir’s gemacht und es war – trotz anfänglichen Frierens – ein gelungener Tag.

Cold. That’s what it was like when we started our trip to the coast around Gothenburg in the morning. Since we had only 13° C, we turned on the heat in the car (in July) and when I was told that we would have a snack outside at our first stop, I considered this as a joke. Wearing warm clothes and drinking hot coffee, this was bearable though, but I couldn’t understand at all that there were kids swimming just in normal swimsuits.

The farer we drove, the warmer it got. After we had taken a (free) car ferry to one of the islands, we even had some ice cream outside – in the sun. From island to island and from village to village, I took off a layer of my clothes until my t-shirt was enough and my spirit was lifted more and more. Another reason for that was of course also that we saw many beautiful places, nice holiday towns and impressive houses. Since we saw all this by car and I didn’t drive myself, I can’t tell you the names of all the villages we visited. But I think, that on this kind of trip, it’s best to just drive all over the place and stop everywhere you like. That’s exactly what we did and it was – despite the freezing at the beginning – a great day.

Städtchen & Cafés – Towns & Cafés

Es gibt zwei Dinge, besser gesagt die Kombination aus ihnen, die es in Schweden wie Sand am mehr gibt: nette Städtchen und gute Cafés. Die wohl beste Konditorei, die ich in dieser Gegend kenne, heißt „Nordpolen“ und befindet sich in Vara. Die Stadt an sich ist nicht besonders aufregend, aber – wie schon angekündigt – nett und es lohnt sich, alleine wegen „Nordpolen“ hier herzufahren. Die köstlichen Mehlspeisen kann man dort in einem ruhigen Gastgarten genießen und eines sei gesagt: jede einzelne ist eine Sünde wert!

Die Stadt, die vor allem für die Stadt-Café-Kombination bekannt ist, ist Alingsås. In der Fußgängerzone reiht sich eines neben das andere und wird von – für mich natürlich auch sehr interessanten – Geschäften ergänzt. Viel Mode aber auch andere schöne Dinge lassen sich hier finden. Wer gerne stöbert, geht am besten zu „Balders Hage“, einem Krims-Krams-Laden (oder zu österreichisch: „Gschisti-Gschasti-Geschäft“), in dem man so gut wie alles findet. Von schwedischen Souvenirs über Küchenzubehör bis zu ausgefallenen Kleinigkeiten ist alles dabei – großteils im skandinavischen Stil versteht sich.

Diese zwei Städte sind selbstverständlich nicht die einzigen, die die Kombination aufweisen, aber sie seien als Beispiele genannt. Einen Ausflug sind sie alle wert, die Städchen und Cafés.

Nordpolen in Vara

There are two things, or better: the combination of them, which are very common in Sweden: nice little towns and good cafés. The best pastry shop that I know in this area, is „Nordpolen“ and is set in Vara. The town itself is not very special, but – as already said – nice and it’s absolutely worth visiting it just because of the café. You can enjoy the delicious pastries in a calm garden and I have to say: each one of them is worth a sin!

One town, which is mostly known for this town-café-combination, is Alingsås. There is one next to the other in the pedestrian area and they are complemented by many shops – which are also very interesting for me, of course. You can find a lot of fashion but also other nice things here. Who likes to browse a bit should go to „Balders Hage“, a shop for bits and pieces (or „Gschisti-Gschasti-Shop“ in Austrian), where you can find nearly everything. Swedish souvenirs, kitchen equipment or fancy little somethings, everything can be found here – mostly in the Scandinavian style of course.

These two towns are not the only ones, which feature the combination, but shall be named as examples. They are all worth a trip, the towns and cafés.

Spät aber doch... / Better late than never...

Nach etwas längerer Pause (ja, auch der Sommer kann stressig sein ;) ) melde ich mich mit einer Ankündigung zurück.
In den nächsten Tagen werden die Posts über meine Schweden-Reise komplettiert. Immerhin gibt es noch einiges, das über dieses schöne Land gesagt/ gezeigt/ gepostet werden muss.
Außerdem wird erstmals auch eine Freundin und Studienkollegin einen Beitrag zu diesem Blog beisteuern. Sie bloggt unter dem Namen "Schrankleben" über Mode und wird, weil es so gut zum Thema passt, etwas über ihre Reise nach Stockholm erzählen. Zu guter Letzt sei noch erwähnt, dass ich nächste Woche noch einmal verreise: Ich verbringe eine Woche in einem Haus in Kroatien. Da dort kein Internet exisiert, werden die Posts zwar nachträglich erscheinen, es wird aber bestimmt einiges Interessantes zu erzählen geben!

After a longer period of absence (yes, summer can also be busy ;) ) I am now back with an announcement.
In the next days, the posts about my journey to Sweden will be completed because there is still a lot to tell/ show/ post about this great country.
Furthermore a friend and colleague of mine will contribute an article to this blog. She has a blog with the name "Schrankleben", where she writes about fashion and will, because it fits the topic, tell something about her trip to Stockholm. In the end, I have to mention, that I will go on another journey next week: I will spend one week in Croatia. Since there is no internet there, the posts will be released afterwords, but I am sure, that there will be some interesting things to tell!
